In this performance assessment, students will use the context of a bake sale fundraiser to apply their knowledge and skills related to understanding and applying number systems to solve problems. Specifically, students will be asked to calculate the amount of money spent and the amount of money earned from sales and profits. Then the profits will be divided among the students participating.
Students will use their understanding of the competency to solve these problems and explain their methodology/process for finding their solutions.
Additional guidelines: This assessment should be used after instruction on the following competencies in grade 6:
It can also be used as a review in Grade 7.

| Big Ideas | Competencies |
|---|---|
A. Understanding and Applying Number SystemsStudents understand that numbers hold value and can choose the appropriate representations and algorithms to reason quantitatively, abstractly, and efficiently. |
Fluently Divide 2Students can fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation. |
Below are analytic teacher rubrics. The column on the left shows the dimension that is being measured in the student’s performance. The levels across the top row indicate the performance level in the dimensions. Occasionally all dimensions and performance levels are exemplified by multiple students in a single recording.
