In this performance assessment, students collect and graph two sets of data. The expected relationship for each set of data is linear. The goal is for students to recognize the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable for the two sets of data and to present their findings (Data Tables, Graph and Brief written summary about the relationship) in poster format (Students could forgo the poster and just answer the questions depending on time).
Students can create the final presentation in any appropriate way, including, but not limited to, Desmos or Google Sheets (or another graphing tool), Microsoft Word or Google Docs, paper and colored pens/pencils/ markers. Final student work should be saved as an Acrobat PDF for uploading to the virtual scoring software.”
This assessment can be used at any time in grade 7 or 8 as a review of independent and dependent variables OR in 6th grade after students have had instruction on linear relationships.
